Artist Statement

Through my fiber constructions and paintings, I strive to visually recreate the essence of feelings and emotions that co-exist between conflicting aspects of consciousness, relationships with others and transitional life crises.

Since graduate school, the process of creating my work has been the way in which I clarify the issues I am confronting at any given time. Throughout this process, I gain a better understanding of who I am, my personal relationships as well as how I function in the world.

Residencies at the Ballinglen Arts Foundation on the northwestern coast of Ireland have provided me with the opportunity to explore my ancestral kinship to this evocative landscape and it’s people. These experiences have merged issues of introspection with responses to the physical world to create pieces that hopefully speak of intimacies as well as of commonalities.
